Since the participation of the UK and the Republic of Ireland into the EEC，the Northern Ireland peace process has been keeping pace with the process of European integration. EEC/ EU has been deeply involved in several turning points for the peace progress. The EU supplies its regional funds and policy instrument for economic regeneration，social development and peacebuilding in Northern Ireland and the border areas of Ireland. This has enabled cross-border cooperation and compromise between unionists and nationalists for the mutual benefits within an agreed institutional framework，and helped to enhance reconciliation at the grassroots level. Such cooperations are different from other regional policy cooperations in light of their objectives of peacebuilding and reconciliation with the “European Dimension” of the Northern Ireland issue. Hence，the impact of Brexit on the Northern Ireland peace process deserves careful and comprehensive examination.
